There were a few swallow chasing each other across the sky when I went for a walk in the Fill yesterday, other than that, mostly crickets, some coots, a few teals. It was hot and dry, in spite of the torrential rains the day before. Must've been a miss due to geography or something. I wonder how long the swallows stay before flying south? It seemed it was just the white-bellied ones, but they move so fast, and it was hard to tell in the light. The summer residents could've already left, these could be migrators passing through. I haven't been there in a while. I saw baby crows begging this morning, and baby gulls outside where I work, they must've been late hatching. I haven't heard the baby Spots begging in a while, but that could be because I haven't been home much.
Autumn, seems to be hitting like a giant wave, suddenly trees are red and gold and leaves are falling. It's still over 80 degrees today, but Labor Day Weekend always feels like the official end of summer. Schools start up, and it's football season again. The sun is setting before 8 pm tonight. We pummel along toward winter solstice now.
