Break in the weather
Been a crazy weather week, get out while the going is good. The wind has picked up and the clouds are rushing over. The Barrow's Goldeneye (male) has returned to the slough, haven't seen him in a week. No ring-neck ducks nor wood ducks today. 22 or 24 Great Blue Herons strung out along a narrow band of land, depending on how I was counting or seeing, 22 yesterday and 25 or 27 on Tuesday. It must be nest-building time, these are possibly the ones that will not be nesting, I saw a similar thing last year. A bald eagle was hovering, as if to dive over a raft of American Coots further out from the shore. Their only protecter, a single gull. The eagle did eventually make an actual dive all the way to the water, but I couldn't tell if it caught a coot, or a fish, or nothing at all. Really need to remember to bring binoculars.
