More of the Geese

The Guardian, May 26/L Herlevi 2016
Funny how I can wake up with a slight headache, and within the hour feel really sick.  Rarely wake up feeling sick, seems to increase the longer I am awake.  At any rate, scrounged around and found something for the headache, to catch it before it was too late.  Called in sick just as I was about to leave for work.  Went for a walk, walking seems to make my stomach feel better.  Thought I'd look for the first brood (clutch?) of ducks, found them sleeping along with mom in the high grasses near the water.  They are about half her size now; still nine in total.  Two males guard from the water, but in general, they don't seem to be around much.  While trying to get a picture of them, the geese showed up behind me.  Three different hatchings (?), all generally hanging out together; safety in numbers, I suppose.  Two adults with each group, and then one more goose who kept an eye on me, clipping grass to my right.  I stayed leaning against a bench and let them wander around me.  The oldest group is morphing into the familiar Canadian Goose form, still about half the size, and about equal amounts fluff vs. feather.

Closer to home, some House Finches nesting in the wisteria above the front window.  There had been a baby earlier, but new nest building going on today.  I like having them share the house.  On the back side, under the eave closest my window, there are always starlings nesting.  I catch the shadows as they fly up to the nest, and I can hear them, though I've never actually seen them outright.
